Completed white picket fence — built and painted by Roger Amada, Hertfordshire

Carpentry and woodwork goes hand in hand with plastering and decorating — skirting boards, architrave, and door frames all need to be fitted correctly before the final finish can be applied. Roger handles this full sequence himself: plaster the walls, fit the timber, then decorate. One tradesperson, one schedule, one consistent standard throughout.

The scope of carpentry work Roger takes on includes fitting and replacing skirting boards and architrave, hanging and adjusting doors, repairing or replacing timber window boards, and general timber repairs where rot or damage has taken hold. New woodwork is fitted ready for paint, and if decorating is part of the same job, it's included in the same quote.

Jobs range from replacing a single section of damaged skirting to fitting out a full room with new timber throughout. There is no minimum job size.

What to Expect

  1. Site assessment — existing woodwork measured, condition checked, any rot or damage noted
  2. Timber selected and sourced (Roger can supply, or work with materials you provide)
  3. Old woodwork removed cleanly where replacement is needed
  4. New timber cut, mitred, and fitted to walls and reveals
  5. Gaps filled, nail holes stopped, surfaces sanded ready for paint
  6. Site left clean and tidy, all offcuts removed

Common Questions

How long does a typical carpentry job take?

Fitting skirting and architrave in a single room usually takes half a day to a full day depending on the room size and complexity. Larger jobs — multiple rooms or door hanging alongside timber work — will be scoped individually when Roger quotes.

Do you supply the timber or do I source it myself?

Roger can supply standard softwood skirting, architrave, and door linings at trade prices, or work with timber you've already purchased. If you have a specific profile or species in mind, let him know at the quote stage.

Will you paint the new woodwork as well?

Yes — if decorating is included in the same job, new woodwork gets primed, undercoated, and top-coated as part of the same visit. See the Interior Decorating service for full details.
